This past May, the gang over at Craghoppers Clothing UK contacted us, interested in an adventure tour of Florida. This wasn’t just any adventure tour though. This was a tour to test out and show off their forthcoming Spring/Summer 2010 clothing line.

As Florida’s ONLY small group adventure tour company, we were ready to guide the group – which consisted of a few marketing managers, two models, and a professional adventure photographer named Corey Rich – to many of south Florida’s most picturesque landscapes and adventurous destinations.

Picking the group up from Miami International Airport, we spent the first evening taking in the nightlife of Miami’s South Beach. The next morning, we were off to Big Cypress National Preserve, with visits to a Native American community and an airboat tour on the outskirts of Everglades National Park. From there, we made our way 37 miles deep into the Everglades – canoeing amongst the Florida Alligator and mountain biking some of the many trails throughout the park. We enjoyed our evenings under the stars, camping and cooking in remote wilderness campsites.

On Day Three, we hopped on the Overseas Highway en route to the Florida Keys. In between enjoying Mallory Square’s Sunset Celebration, the Craghoppers Crew hit it hard; kayaking, bone-fishing, biking, deep-sea fishing, and taking a helicopter ride over the Caribbean blue waters.

The group that I spent over six days with represented the Craghoppers company very well. Their products actually walk the walk. They are not made in a boardroom by number crunchers. The clothing line really does inspire travel, exploration, and adventure.

And the photographer, Corey Rich, put on a workshop – making professional adventure photography appear like anyone can do it, to only learn that he is just that good (and that my camera’s automatic settings will never capture a photo with quite the depth he absorbs through his lens).

The catalog should be released soon. Check out Craghoppers website to see what our tour looked like (and purchase some great clothing) by clicking here. Want to see the cover of the catalog, visit Corey’s blog HERE.

After this tour, we at Florida Adventure Treks, thought of a first-of-its-kind event – an in-depth photography workshop over the course of a seven (7) day adventure tour. Combine the best of travel with the skills of a professional adventure photographer to teach you hands-on photography in some of Florida’s most stunning settings. Our Photography Workshop is still under development…. stay tuned!

Budget travel is an art form – it is all about exploring a new land, learning about its people, and experiencing a destination as if you lived there. There is no better way to travel. But sometimes, traveling on a budget isn’t easy. The United States doesn’t have a rail system that even closely rivals Europe. Given how big our country is, buses are a distant second to plane hopping. And, the time and effort to check-in at an airport every few days is not exactly our idea of a holiday.

Florida boasts so many great destinations – major cities, national and state parks, and quaint towns located off-the-beaten path. But getting to and from each destination isn’t that easy without your own car. And more importantly, knowing where to go except for only the most popular tourist destinations is not printed in any tour book. At Florida Adventure Treks, we combine local experience with budget-friendly travel tours. We are Florida’s ONLY small group tour company. With us, you can visit all the best of Florida, including many local destinations.

Our tours are budget tours. We believe, however, that a budget tour shouldn’t have to sacrifice quality for costs. For the past five years, we have been delivering the highest quality vacation holidays to travelers on a budget. Our accommodations have you staying right in the center of town (or within walking distance) or a stone’s throw from the beach every night. And, all of our adventure tours include local transportation, accommodations (camping on our Adventure Tours) and equipment, lots of included activities (airboat tour, snorkeling trip, Orlando theme park ticket), the services of a professional tour guide, and much much more.

Even food costs are reasonable – each group contributes $40 per week towards a food kitty. We then use this money to purchase groceries and make stops at farmer’s markets; and we have picnic lunches en route to our destinations, dinners over a campfire, and breakfasts at camp before heading to our next stop. We carry all of our camping and cooking equipment on the roof of the tour vehicle.

If you are looking for the best Florida tour, where you get to travel with like-minded people, and experience Florida like a local, visit our website for more information. And, oh yeah, we are Florida’s ONLY budget travel tour operator.

National Geographic Adventure. Outside Magazine. Conde Nast Traveler. These are just a few of the magazines that can whisk you to another land through the still image only. Adventure photography is story-telling in its purest form. It captures a split second in the action – canoeing amongst the Florida alligators in Everglades National Park, biking along the boardwalk of Miami South Beach’s Art-Deco hotels, or kayaking in the crystal blue waters of the Florida Keys.

Long gone are the days of film speed, darkrooms settings, and exposure measurements. With the advent of the digital camera and automatic settings, everyone seems to be a “photographer.” Yet, digital cameras still have manual functioning capabilities. And it is those exact functions that allow you to instill your own personality into a photo. Photography is a learn-by-doing craft – you can learn theory from a book, but you earn your stripes by being out in the element. What better way to learn than with the assistance of a professional adventure photographer.

At Florida Adventure Treks, we are putting together an Adventure Photography Workshop Tour. Spend seven (7) days with us, exploring the beauty and natural wonder of Florida, while taking part in adventure activities and learning the ins-n-outs of adventure photography directly from a professional. Traveling in a group of twelve, along with your instructor and tour guide, we will visit many of Florida’s best outdoor destinations where you will learn adventure photography when the light is ideal (in the morning and evening). We will camp two (2) nights to learn nighttime techniques, and relax in four star accommodations ranging from resorts to bed-n-breakfasts during the remainder of the trip. We will participate in numerous adventure activities too – canoeing, kayaking, bike riding, river rafting, deep-sea fishing, horseback riding, and even take in a roller coaster or two! There will also be an option for ariel photography in a helicopter flight over the Florida Keys (add. supplement of $200 per person). At night, your instructor will teach you about photo editing on your laptop.

Interested? Our first tour is scheduled to depart in April/May 2010. Workshop tour costs $2500 per person (single supplement available) – includes all local transportation, lodging, adventure activities, six days of hands-on instruction (with 3-4 nights of digital editing instruction), and the services of a tour leader.
